We aim to create a unique form of personal minimalism, one that resonates more with your home. While Scandinavian design ethos is appreciated for its minimalism, we recognize that it may not always connect with the "personal touch". Our hope is that our products help bridge this gap, infusing the elegance of minimalism with the richness of personal memories through a cartographic format, crafting architectural pieces suitable for any home and every individual.

Digital craft

Our approach combines digital craftsmanship with industrial production methods. For decades, 3D printing has been a favored tool in various industries, but its application has expanded to encompass more creative possibilities, particularly within the realms of design and art. Leveraging sustainably sourced materials and virtually waste-free production processes, 3D printing becomes an ideal choice for crafting small collections and exclusive editions, despite each piece requiring up to two days to complete.

Nevertheless, the true craftsmanship and artistic essence of a printable 3D model reside in the design phase, crucial elements that lead to visually stunning outcomes.

Our journey

Our journey began with childhood friends Jacob Gåfvels and Johan Rosvall, who share a passion for both design and technology. This shared enthusiasm has driven the creation of Kartografik. The inception of Kartografik took place in 2017, initially as a simple concept focused on enhancing interior decor with maps. However, our vision aimed to infuse a deeply personal touch, allowing for individual expression within the framework of classic Scandinavian design principles.

Our evolution from complete beginners, unaware of how to build or operate a 3D printer, to having accumulated hundreds or thousands hours of printing in pursuit of realising our idea, has been a labor of love and frustration in equal measure. It has been a journey of continuous technical and aesthetic development, encompassing the design of the maps, the acquisition of precise underlying data, the selection of the right filament, and the choice of frames.

Each decision we've made has demanded an enormous amount of time, perhaps at times more than we should have. However, every step has been a meaningful contribution toward a deeply personal creation, one that we hope resonates with you just as profoundly.
